VMware Explore Build Up

So this year is my first VMware Explore since the change from VMworld. It’s bitter sweet, as VMworld was the conference to always represent the largest virtualisation conference and always associated with VMware. Change can be good at times, they say. It’s really exciting to get to travel and meet friends from around the globe, last we all connected was in 2019, my last in-person conference. Then was the virtual conferences that was cool to a certain extent, as we all did miss the human interaction and socialising.

So, the day has arrived, and I make my way to Barcelona from South Africa. Its a long trip, but was really looking forward to the event. I was expecting some big news, especially with the acquisition for VMware by Broadcom.

As we kicked of the General Session, we had a short message from the CEO of Broadcom and not much could be mentioned as there was a hold up on the finalisation of the acquisition. We still had a great keynote from VMware Execs and including some clients.

Every Keynote, keeps you on the edge pf your seat as you get to see why VMware is one of the great technology companies that are out there and why clients globally trust them.

It was really great to meet the vExpert team Corey & Eric was at the conference and was pleased to hear that Broadcom understands the value of the vExpert community and that they will be still keeping the program active and Corey will still be the captain of this amazing vessel.

So enjoy watching the on demand recordings from VMware Explore and lets see if this was the last of VMware Explore as a new chapter will begin with Broadcom for 2024.

It’s time to go Virtual Conferencing

Virtually Packed Conference Hall

Every year, most IT professionals plan and gear up for a pack year of IT conferences. There is a lot of really great conferences held globally. So there is a need to plan travel to these events is key. This year, everything has changed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All, if not most conferences has been cancelled from being hosted physically. This had to change the way vendors would host their annual conferences. Virtual Conferencing is the way forward.

There is a lot of pros and cons related to this. By going virtual there is larger audience that can be targeted, which will also allow individuals that don’t have budget for travel. The interaction with experts and networking and connecting with like minded individuals from around the world is limited to digital, which I will really miss and these conferences are places where I get to meet friends from abroad that I have met attending conferences since 2011.

This year, we have seen that most of these events have no charge associated to attending them, which is great, but I do understand that this also creates a huge financial impact for vendors, conference facilities etc. I’m grateful that many that will be able to attend will understand the value that these conferences bring to self development and helping your organisations grow and  be more relevant, sharing your experiences.

I had to request vouchers for my flights from the airlines as I had made my bookings in advance so that I could get my flights and accommodation at a better rate, Some of my friends globally have been unlucky, as they could not get a refund or vouchers.

My upcoming trips that I was really looking forward to attend was VMware Empower, Dell Technologies World, Veeam ON & VMworld. This year I will be attending these conference from the comfort of my home.

Below are some of the vendors that have gone virtual and have no fees for registration.

  • VMware Empower 2020
  • VMworld 2020
  • Veeam ON 2020
  • Carbon Black Connect 2020
  • vForum 2020
  • Dell Technologies World 2020
  • HPE Discover 2020

There are many more virtual conferences out there, so such online to discover more. This is a first for many vendors to convert their annual conferences to virtual.

Just get onto google and search for the events and register. And if you can’t attend there is always the on-demand content from these events to catch up!

Hope you meet you virtually at the upcoming events!

Here’s to another 20 years VMware…Celebrations @ VMworld 2018

I know that this post is rather late…but I’m sure you have all the juicy information of what went down at both VMworld in the US & Europe. I’m just posting a high-level overview of my experiences and takeaways from the event.

As usual the VMworld event was held in Barcelona for the Europe conference. To be honest I have mixed feeling about the place. The good, most attendees are familiar with the city so logistics and navigating around the city is great, on the other hand change is good. Having a new venue for VMworld will give a breath of fresh air and new scenery for those traveling to the conference. That’s just my opinion.

So, let’s get into the key topics at VMworld 2018!

  • Heptio
  • vSphere Platinum
  • App Defense
  • Edge Computing
  • Kubernetes
  • VMware Blockchain
  • VMware Cloud on AWS
  • Project Dimension (Beta)

I extremely love the solutions exchange as you get to meet some amazing vendors with amazing technologies. You get time to mingle and understand their technologies and how it may benefit you in your organization.

The social scene was great. Great networking opportunities, the best for me was attending the vExpert Party. Got to meet the program team and network with fellow VMware enthusiast.

Till VMworld 2018!!!

It’s that time of year again for….VMworld!

VMworld is one of the largest Virtualization & Datacentre conference that is held in USA and Europe by VMware. It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of great and new announcements made at the conference showcasing the future for VMware. Many vendors are sponsors and will be at the Solution Exchange centre showcasing their latest and greatest technology as being part of VMware’s Ecosystem.

Whilst this is a wonderful opportunity to attend as many sessions as you can, it’s important to choose wisely. Getting into sessions where are discussions and speaking to the experts are the best opposed to just attending a PowerPoint presentation. Try out the hands-on labs and visit the Solution Exchange centre, chat to the vendors and find out what’s new within their portfolio. Best part is the networking and growing your professional network with likeminded people and enjoy all the parties hosted by vendors and especially the VMworld Party.

The conference will fly by fast, so take a step back and enjoy the atmosphere and being part of such a wonderful event and enjoy every moment.
